About OCCASIONAL SUPERSTAR

Fabian’s earliest memories of creating were when he was a 3 year old drawing at his mother’s table. He began sketching pictures of his family members and later his classmates with pastels and color pencils in Fayetteville, NC where he grew up. He went on to graduate with a BFA in Illustration from East Carolina University.

Fabian’s influences are a combination of early Italian renaissance artist such as Michelangelo and Caravaggio, as well as illustrators such as Norman Rockwell and Chuck Jones. He uses his personal experiences and skill sets he developed within his professional career as a designer and illustrator in commercial advertising in his art. His work also explores the influence of pop culture and the culture of celebrity; the love of natural beauty; and the role of race in a supposedly post-racial society. His most recent series, Pop Life, pays tribute to musicians that have become international pop icons, who have changed the pop game in careers that have spanned decades, and in the case of Michael Jackson, a career that spanned a lifetime.

Fabian has been using the name OCCASIONAL SUPERSTAR since 2003, when he printed a business card for his creative services company that read: “CEO & Occasional Superstar.” Fabian noticed that people always giggled at the “OCCASIONAL SUPERSTAR”– and so the brand was born.

Fabian explains, "Basically, it means that I'm just a regular dude who has extraordinary moments.  In a broader sense, anyone can be an Occasional Superstar, me, you - everybody has some OCCASIONAL SUPERSTAR inside them."

Most recently, Fabian founded The World Wide Art Federation in 2009. The WWAF is an organization that specializes in organizing live art exhibitions in the form of Art Battles that are innovative and entertaining. He took the colorful personalities of wrestling and mixed it with the technical skills of Bob Ross. Fabian believes that everyone has an inherent admiration for art and everybody loves personality. Since its inception, the WWAF has set the bar for live art showcases by changing the way artists display their talents.

Fabian also performs unique live art, often in conjunction with music - painting a picture on the spot without a plan, taking in the atmosphere and putting it on the canvas. He recently completed the five-city Soulphisticated tour where he and long-time friend and colleague Dubelyoo provided visual art to accompany Sirius Satellite’s DJ Jamad’s Afromentals Mix Show. Various OCCASIONAL SUPERSTAR pieces will also be showcased in Art, Beats + Lyrics, a multi-media, multi-city art exhibition that explores the work of a diverse group of visual artists emerging from hip-hop culture.
